Why are antimicrobial drugs used in veterinary medicine?

The main reasons for using antimicrobials in animals are therapeutic and preventive or strategic treatment. In farm animals, antimicrobials are also used to improve performance by increasing feed conversion, growth rate or yield. Antimicrobials are essential medicines for human and animal health and welfare.

Penstrepto suspension is used to treat infections caused by susceptible organisms, including dengue; respiratory infections, including pneumonia and atrophic rhinitis; listeriosis; meningitis; sepsis; toxemia associated with salmonella, salmonellosis; and control of secondary bacterial invaders in primary viral-derived diseases.

Gamithromycin injection is used in cattle, sheep and swine, and subcutaneously in beef and non-lactating cows only.
