What Worms Does Levamisole Treat?

Levamisole phosphate is a sterile solution recommended for the treatment of cattle infected with the following parasites. Each milliliter of solution contains levamisole phosphate equivalent to 136.5 mg of levamisole hydrochloride.

 

Indications of  Levamisole injection:

Levamisole injection prevents and treats gastrointestinal and pulmonary schistosome infections, such as in calves, cattle, goats, and sheep.

Precautions for Levamisole Phosphate

Levamisole wormer, is used to treat parasitic worm infections, specifically ascariasis and hookworm infections.

 

Careful estimation of the body weight of the cattle is essential for proper performance of this product. It is recommended that levamisole injectable wormer be injected only into cattle in free-range or feedlot conditions.

 

Adverse reactions may occur at the injection site in cattle near slaughter weight and condition. Occasionally animals in feeder or feeder meat may develop swelling at the injection site. Swelling will subside within 7 to 14 days and is not more severe than that observed from commonly used vaccines and vaccines.

 

The mid-neck region is the preferred site of injection. Always use sterile needles and syringes. Non-sterile equipment may result in abscesses at the injection site. The contents should be used as soon as possible after a seal rupture. It is recommended that the cap be wiped with alcohol prior to drawing the solution. In addition, the skin at the injection site should be wiped with alcohol to avoid infection.

Experience under field conditions has shown that stress procedures such as vaccination, debridement, dehorning, and simultaneous exposure to cholinesterase inhibiting drugs, pesticides, or chemicals may increase the risk associated with the use of this product. Such concurrent stresses should be avoided when using this product.

 

Maturation of some worm species may be prevented during the heavy pre-adult stage of adult populations. Cattle that are severely parasitized or raised under conditions of continuous worm exposure may require retreatment two to four weeks after the first treatment.

 

Administration

Thoroughly clean and disinfect syringes and needles by boiling in water for 20 minutes. Use 14- or 16-gauge 1/2- to 1-inch needles.

Do not remove the rubber stopper from the bottle, but clean and disinfect it with 70% alcohol. With the syringe attached to the needle, insert the needle into the rubber stopper and remove the desired dose.

 

Prepare the injection site by wiping with 70% alcohol or other suitable disinfectant, and by administering the dose under the skin folds of the mid-neck. A clean, sterile needle should be used for each animal to avoid spreading infection.

 

Side effects may include abdominal pain, vomiting, headache, and dizziness.Use is not recommended during breastfeeding or the third trimester of pregnancy. Serious side effects may include an increased risk of infection. It belongs to the anthelmintic class of medications.
